Here we go again. Week 37.
The Scam by Janet Evanovich and Lee Goldberg – I received this from the publisher as an e-book via NetGalley. I really enjoyed this installment. This series is action packed and you never know what will happen next. Nick and Kate and their entourage of cons are outstanding, well developed characters. Kate’s father Jake may be my favorite. In this installment, Kate and Nick are running a con to take down a money laundering casino owner and hopefully some criminals and mobsters will get caught in the net. Obviously, nothing goes as planned, so they make a new plan. The book feels spontaneous, almost like a choose your own adventure, as they encounter obstacle and make readjustments. I would definitely recommend reading the entire series. And about the ending…. Total cliffhanger. I CANNOT wait for the next book. I’m giving it 4 stars.
Faceless Killers by Henning Mankell – I borrowed this as an audiobook from the Boston Public Library. It is Kurt Wallander #1. It is a good mystery and I definitely liked it. It is translated from Swedish and we know how I feel about translations. If it sucked, who would bother to translate it. Being that this is a mystery novel, I am not going to reveal the plot. It is good. It is entertaining. I’m giving it 3 stars.
Twisted by Laurie Halse Anderson – I borrowed this as an audiobook from the BPL. Let’s start with a tangent. This author is from Potsdam NY. My aunt lives there and I generally go there at least twice a year. Perhaps the last time I was house sitting, we were both in Walmart at the same time…. I’d pick somewhere classier, but really, there’s just Walmart. About this book… holy cow this was good. It’s YA fiction, none of that sci fi, fantasy, dystopian nonsense (you know, all of the things that I normally love). This is a completely relateable (not a word) book about real teens and their real problems. I was super impressed. I’m giving it 4 stars. You’ll just have to find out for yourself what it’s about.
And that’s it for Week 37. Just 3. This is perhaps a clue as to why I am so far behind schedule….
