Week 40 – 2016

As usual, I am soon to be off on another adventure, but I wanted to get a start on this now, since I have a few minutes. Week 40 covers October 3 – 9. Feedback is always welcome. I enjoy hearing from all of you.

Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare – I borrowed this as an e-book from the Boston Public Library. This is Dark Artifices #1. I really like this author. She comes up with great stories and great characters. I know this started as Harry Potter fan fiction, but I like it a great deal more than Harry Potter. This begins the story of Emma Carstairs. She has lost her parents and for her own sanity, needs to find out who murdered them. I look forward to the next installment. I’m giving it 4 stars.

The Wonder by Emma Donoghue – I borrowed this as an e-book from the BPL. This is one of the ones that I recommended and then ended up on the hold list once it was purchased by the library. And I must not have been the only person to recommend this because I was on hold for a while. I really like this author. She takes real events from history and novelizes (that can’t really be a word, but I’m also not getting an error, so I’m probably using it incorrectly) the story. In this book, a nurse takes a job where she is required to monitor a young girl and make sure she is not eating anything. The girl claims to be living off manna from heaven. The nurse goes from an observer doing her job as outlined by her employer to a nurse trying to fight for a patient’s life. As are all of her books, this author tells a stunning and realistic story about actual people and really draws the reader into the story. I’m giving this one 4 stars.

And that is it for Week 40. Let me know what you think.
